The flight from Sydney was on time and uneventful, thankfully. We picked the hire car up at Brisbane airport and headed for our hotel. Driving over here is manic compared to New Zealand. The journey wasn't straight forward, lots of road works near to our hotel. We eventually arrived there after dark and had after leaving the bags in our room, we had a walk out to a shopping mall nearby. We bought our tea there and took it back to have in our room.
The following morning we checked out of the hotel, parked the car on the shopping mall car park & caught the bus into the city.

The bus journey was fantastic. Bus only roads all the way into the city. You occasionally caught a glimpse of the "ordinary" roads with cars bumper to bumper. Once in the city we hopped on a sight seeing bus for a tour of the city. It wasn't the best of tours, but fortunately the ticket was transferable for the river bus on the Brisbane River. We really enjoyed hopping on and off this service

The bus tour was a bit of a disappointment, It was a single deck general service bus, with a poor PA system & an Aussie guide who couldn't get his words out quick enough. This was the only stop for photographs.
We soon left the bus to join a City Cat, a ferry service on Brisbane River, which was included on our tour ticket.
There was a Chinese festival at one of the places we got off the ferry.
After catching the train back to pick up the car, we headed out of Brisbane, South, towards the Gold Coast for a couple of nights accommodation at Surfers Paradise.
It was after dark when we arrived there and checked into our apartment. The place was buzzing with people at 8.30 in the evening, so different to New Zealand. There was a craft market all along the prom, on until 10.00pm.
The following morning after breakfast we rode to the neighbouring town of Southport, where the tide was IN.
The temperature was 28 degrees as we headed back to Surfers Paradise for an afternoon on the beach & play in the surf.

This morning we went to Mass at St Vincent's in Surfers Paradise.
Brisbane will be hosting the 2018 Commonwealth Games. They are already counting down to the start of them.
