I am having to re-post this blog as I deleted the last posting in error. We have had a busy week, hence the lack of news from this end.
Back to Friday 12th April. Before leaving Whakatane we spent the day there in glorious sunshine and took some more pictures.
We left there late afternoon for the one and a half hour drive North to Otometai in The bay of Plenty, to meet up with Anne's family, Cousin Sue and her partner Michael. Sue visited the UK last year and stayed with us a few days. We stayed here last time we were in New Zealand 7 years ago.
After breakfast on Saturday Michael and I went down to his boat Willi O, which was moored at the Marina. Michael takes charter parties out sea fishing for a hobby, so we went to check things over so everything was ready for his next outing. He gave the boat a run out to the next marina to fuel it up. This was a trip down memory lane for me as we passed the Ocean going vessels in the port of Tauranga. I flew out from the UK over 35 years ago to join one of my ships here, and met Sue's parents Freddie & Ruth.
Took this picture of Mt. Manganui on the way back to our harbour. I am hoping to climb to it's summit before we leave here.
On Sunday morning we went to Mass at8.00 as we were heading off to Hamilton later that morning.
Sue & Mike had been invited to a friends 70th in Hamilton. Sue's youngest daughter (Nicky) lives in Hamilton with her husband (John) & three sons, Xavier,Jaoquyn & Kaiah & we spent the afternoon with them. John had prepared a wonderful lunch for us at their home.
After lunch Nicky, John & Jaoquyn took us for a tour of Hamilton. We spent some time in the park gardens,a section of which was devoted to the Maori culture. We were invited to a feast of meats (4), sweet potato and salad. The meal had just been cooked in a Hangi (an oven of hot stones in the ground). The veg were grown in their garden in the park. It was yummy & free.
On our way back they took us to the Mormon Temple visitor Centre.
