Checked out of our hotel at Palmerston North this morning and parked up in the City to have a walk round and take some pictures. There is a large grassed park area called The Square, which splits the shopping area into two large sections.
We dropped in on the National Rugby museum before leaving town. We took the opportunity to lead the team in performing their world famous "Hakka"
About half an hour out of town,after a long climb into the hills we came across the Te Apiti wind farm. The turbines were too numerous to count,they are capable of providing electricity for up to 45,000 homes. It was a windy spot to get out of the car, but it wasn't a chilling wind.
Our final destination today will be Napier, way over on the East coast. Before we get there we need to pass through the town of Woodville,which has a shop famous for its cheesecakes. It is called Yummy Mummy's. On entering the shop you are offered tasters of some of the unusual flavoured cheesecakes. I bought a logan berry to have later,but couldn't resist a piece of date & walnut cake with butter & a cup of tea. Yummy !!!!!
About 20 kms from Napier we passed through Hastings,which had a lovely shopping centre and not much more. It was almost tea time and everywhere was shutting up for the day, so we continued on to Napier after stopping to let something with a bit more horse power than us have right of way.
Since we went on daylight saving time at the weekend it has started to go dark earlier, which was the case as we arrived at our motel at six thirty.
