A rest day (for sure) in Queenstown

Thursday 7th March Taking it easy today. The car has remained parked up at the motel as it is less than 5 minutes to the centre of town. We booked a trip on a steamer, the TSS Earnslaw, to take us across lake Wakatipu to Walter peak High Country Farm, about 45 minutes steaming across the lake. The weather was again unbelievably sunny. No wonder they say that the sun only shines on the righteous It was just like old times on the water. The engine room was open to view from the top plates. Below you could see them stoking the boilers and manning the telegraph in response to orders from the bridge. The engine room smells were a nice reminder of the good old days. Another good memory was sitting back in the bar and enjoying a well earned pint. In this case a nice pint of dark mild or as the kiwis call it Black. On arrival at Walter Peak we were treated to an all you can eat barbecue overlooking the beach, washed down with a glass of Chardonnay. Very nice indeed. That just gave us enough time to fit in a sheep dog and shearing demonstrations. In the gift shop there was someone giving a wool spinning demo. Back on the steamer for the return voyage we were treated to a sing-a-long with the pianist in the main deck saloon. Back in Queenstown it was time to sit out on the harbour front and catch up with this blog,and Anne her facebook.
