Onwards to Queenstown via the scenic route

On leaving Wanaka,we took the advice from the owner of our last motel & left town taking the quiet, more scenic route over the mountains to Queenstown via Arrow town. About 20 minutes into the journey we passed through the old settlement of Cardrona. Just had to stop to take a couple of snaps. On climbing the mountains we came across a viewing point which was the highest stretch of sealed road (a road with tarmac) The first township at the foot of the mountain was an old gold mining town called Arrow town. It was full of history. We spent a good 4 hours but declined the opportunity to go panning for gold in the river Arrow. We found a church (St. Patrick's) which has a lot of interesting history connected to it. You can read about it on line. The pictures are on my camera though. After checking into our motel we took a stroll around Queenstown then went for dinner. This is the view from the restaurant which overlooks lake Wakatipu.
